  • Recently, the collection systems for the recycling of food residue is particularly getting important in Korea because of the prohibition of land dumping of food residues since 2005. The purpose of this study is to investigate the spatial distribution of food residue generation sources and the analysis of optimum routes of the collection of food residues with geographic information system(GIS) in Jung-gu, Daejeon. The food residues were mainly generated at large public facilities, such as schools and hospitals, and restaurants located in the commercial area. The collection routes for food residue were analyzed in terms of haul distance and haul time informations. The total distance of the optimum collection route and total collection time were 56,675.78m and 19.2h, including container pickup time and driving time between container location, respectively. In collection systems by food residue recycling agencies, the minimum distance of the optimum collection route, which starts at the Huimae restaurant, and total collection time were 43,714.15m and 14.09h, respectively.
