  • Most of the large cities and industrial areas in Korea are located along the coastline and a serious problem of air pollution may stand out in relief over the coastline area on the day synoptic weather effect is weak. Therefore, we need to well understand on the characteristics of regional circulation system over this area. We would like to investigate the effects of terrain on the onset time of a sea breeze over the Pusan metropolitan area in this study. It is general the fact that onset time of a sea breeze is mainly affected according to the distance from the coastline but we find the reversal fact. The onset time at Su-young is faster than that at Haeundae in spite of the observation site of Su-young is 5 m and that of Haeundae is 1 km away from the coastline. This is the reason that the nighttime air is converged the lower area by surface cooling and then it is drained into the lowest area, Su-young river until the sunrise. it is proved by observation data at Su-young and Haeundae. Despite of distances from the coastline are equivalent, onset of a sea breeze at 5 Pier is earlier than that of Yong-ho. This is because that 5 Pier is located at the area drainage flow come out. This is proved according as the wind direction is NNE at 5 Pier during nighttime. (rdf:langString) (en)
