  • This study demonstrates that the cloud effect on surface solar radiation can be parameterized by cloud transmittance. The cloud transmittances were calculated using exponential, linear, and constant method. Results from both the linear and the constant statistical cloud transmittance parameterization are appear to bo very similar. The correlation coefficient between calculated and observed horizontal global irradiance for cloudy day at KMA was 0.92, and to horizontal global irradiance, direct beam and diffuse irradiance for cloudy sky at KIER, 0.89, 0.828, and 0.756. This study suggests a method estimating to be improved solar radiation for the cloudy sky. If the quality of model estimated radiation flux is to be improved, precise specification of cloud amount is much needer. Surface observations of cloud amount are not adequate to describe the optical condition of cloudy atmosphere. A possible improvement would include the use of satellite data which would permit a view of the atmosphere from above. (rdf:langString) (en)
