  • A two-dimensional, time-dependent, precipitation formation model have been expanded to include cloud ice and hail. The model is a set of partial differential equations describing time changes of momentum, thermodynamic energy, water vapor, rainwater and hail. The equations are integrated over 8000m high by 100㎞ wide. Cloud formation, precipitation processes and hail formation are simulated in the model. Autoconversion and accretion are used to transform cloud water to rain. Hail is formed by the freezing of rain and through an approximation to the Bergeron process to transform cloud liquid to hail. Accretion of cloud water by rain, and accretion of cloud water, cloud ice and rain by hail are modeled. Evaporation of all forms of cloud particles can occur, and melting of frozen particles is simulated. The effect of a potential temperature gradient, initial water vapor mixing ratio, water content and vapor gradient on precipitation are used in considering with hail. The more the atmosphere is unstable and water vapors is abundant, the more cumulus developed easily and rainfall was much as raindrop and hail are produced easily. (rdf:langString) (en)
