  • Saturation of current transformers(CTs) causes severe errors in reproducing the secondary current and thus the secondary current of CT is distorted, which causes a relay to maloperate. A new method which determines whether CT is saturated, is presented. And the digital filter model of CT taking into account saturation phenomena is also proposed. With that filter model, even though CT is saturated the undistorted secondary current corresponding to the current ratio, can be estimated from the distorted one, which allows a significant reduction of CT cost.
