  • It is very important to distinguish from power swing and out-of-step for the stability. When a power swing condition occurs, the relay sends blocking signal, on the other hand, when a out-of-step condition occurs, the relay sends a trip signal. Conventional distinction method between power swing and out-of-step is using passing time and impedance locus that goes through the relay operation area. However, this method has got a problem which the detection time is a little bit long because it detects after the impedance locus passing the relay operation area. In this paper, detection out-of-step when the impedance locus which is measured by relay goes through line impedance of Zone 1 and Zone 2. This method can detect out-of-step which is can't be recovered because the angle difference of remote and local source is over 180 degree. (rdf:langString) (en)
